Using Physical Therapy for Rehabilitation
Physical therapy, sometimes called rehabilitation therapy or physiotherapy, is designed to stretch and strengthen muscles, reduce pain, inflammation and muscles spasms to help support the skeletal structure more effectively.
This is why we strongly recommend patients who are currently receiving chiropractic care to also receive physical therapy. Chiropractic focuses on freeing up the spine from subluxations while physical therapy focuses on muscle movement and recovery.
Patients who utilize physical therapy in addition to their chiropractic treatment plan tend to yield faster and longer lasting results as each type of therapy is specifically designed to encourage faster healing.
Types of Therapy We Utilize
Depending on your treatment plan, we may utilize some of the therapies listed below:
- Heat therapy – Designed to reduce muscle spasms, tightness and pain to help hold the chiropractic adjustments better.
- Cold therapy/Cryotherapy – Reduces inflammation and pain in order to help get quicker and better results.
- Mechanical and Passive Traction – Designed to restore and promote proper natural spinal curves and alignment of the spine.
- Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) – Includes interferential (IFT/IFC) and premodulation muscle stimulation which helps reduce muscle spasms, tightness and pain.
