Pediatric Chiropractic CareChiropractic Care and Treatments for Infants, Children and Teens
One question I often get asked is “How old does my child need to be to get adjusted?”
My answer is always the same… “As soon as they are born!” It is at this point that I usually get a surprised look and a “Seriously?” Absolutely! Now of course the force used to adjust children is much much less than for adults, but they have spines like everyone else which can become subluxated (misaligned) as well.
In some cases, this happens during the birthing process and anyone who has experienced a difficult delivery or a C-section, knows what I am taking about.
There are forces exerted on infants during these procedures that can very easily cause subluxations. With that being said, any child that went through a difficult delivery should have their spine evaluated for subluxation.
Start Addressing The Problems Early
As we all recall, we fell repeatedly during our childhood. Hopefully, most of the time we got right back up, shook it off and kept going but just because the pain may have subsided, it does not mean no damage was done. Any force our spines are exposed to can cause subluxations whether they create problems sooner or later.
So why not have our kids spines checked for misalignments now before any issues get worse or appear in the future? One of the great things about youth is we bounce back from injury quickly.
Something that was underlying since our childhood that did not appear until later life may take many months to fix, if it is even fixable, but if we treated it when it happened it may have only taken days or weeks. Sometimes I wonder why more parents are not having their children evaluated for subluxations, especially when they themselves are getting adjusted.
I think most of the time it is because they are just not educated or aware of the benefits of chiropractic care for their children whether they are showing symptoms or not.
If this is the case, then it is my duty as their doctor to teach them so they can make an informed decision.
Benefits of Pediatric Chiropractic Care
Chiropractors do not treat the symptoms, but the cause and if the following conditions (just to list a few) are caused by nerve interference, then chiropractic may help.
- Restricted Neck Motion
- Restricted Joint Motion
- Interrupted Sleep
- Ear Infections
- Bed Wetting
